Scrap metal | The household items you might not know can be recycled

Scrap metal is the most recyclable product on earth. Its most impressive feature is its ability to be continually recycled without any degradation in performance when used in the forging of one material to another.

The process of recycling scrap metal creates significantly fewer greenhouse gasses than the process of creating new metals from raw ores and minerals. A study by the Imperial College in London showed that by smelting aluminum scrap, 354,000 tons of carbon dioxide, one of the main greenhouse gases, is saved per 100,000 tons of aluminum produced. Recycled metal is also just as strong as virgin metal, even though it uses notably less energy to create.

You might not know it, but your business and home is full of recyclable steel products. Here’s a few you might think about selling as scrap metal, rather than putting them out for bulky goods collection.

Consider recycling the old iron or copper pans for metal scrap. Common kitchen appliances such as refrigerators and microwaves have copper wires. Stainless steel silverware, aluminum foil and even your unused kitchen stove can be recycled. Of course, any aluminium cans are worth collecting and cashing in.

Living Room and Bedroom

Your unused television set, entry doors, lamp bases, air-conditioners and frames or gutters made from aluminum can all be recycled.

Bathroom and Laundry

Any whitegoods such as washers or dryers are a good source for scrap metal. Fixtures in your bathroom may have copper wiring and pipes for plumbing may be made of copper as well. Metal shelves can also be recycled.

Aluminium deck chairs can be used as scrap metal; lawnmowers, metal swings and even iron railing can also be sold as scrap metal. Any rusty old power tools, empty paint cans, nails, screws, bicycles, musical instruments discarded by your children or perhaps an unused car and metal parts such as panels, wheels, engine and many others too.Wanless offers regular collection of metals and steel from businesses, even in small volumes. Whether it’s weekly, fortnightly or monthly, we can help recycle your scrap metal.
