Wanless Returns to Toowoomba

Wanless Returns to Toowoomba with New Local Waste and Recycling Operation

For many long-term Toowoomba locals, Wanless is a familiar name.

Our distinctive blue trucks and butterfly branding were once a regular sight around town, servicing businesses across the region.

A lot has changed since then.

Wanless has grown into a significant Australian waste management and resource recovery business operating across the eastern seaboard. Our trucks look very different these days, our capabilities have grown considerably – but we’re still proudly Wanless family owned.

And now, Wanless is back in Toowoomba.

Local people. Local service. Backed by Wanless.

Our new Toowoomba branch at Mansell Street, Wilsonton is now operational, giving businesses across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs access to locally based commercial waste collection and recycling services.

Importantly, we’re not simply servicing Toowoomba remotely from Brisbane.

We’re establishing a genuine local operation, with a local team and dedicated collection capability on the ground, supported by the infrastructure, expertise and resource recovery capabilities of the wider Wanless Queensland network.

For customers, that means the responsiveness and relationships that come with dealing with a local team, backed by the capabilities of a much larger waste and resource recovery business.

Wanless returns to Toowoomba – and is already feeling at home

Leading our Toowoomba operation is Branch Manager Henry Carr, who says the response from local businesses has made Wanless’s return particularly rewarding.

“I haven’t been with Wanless for all of that history, but you quickly realise how well known the name is around Toowoomba. So many of the local businesses I’ve spoken to remember Wanless and the old blue trucks, and they’re genuinely happy to see us back. It feels like we’re already part of the community again.”

For Henry, returning to the region isn’t simply about putting Wanless trucks back on Toowoomba roads.

“There’s something special about bringing the Wanless name back to a region where it has such a strong history. For me, it’s about building on those existing connections, creating new ones, and showing local businesses that we’re here to support them, for the long term.”

Supporting Toowoomba businesses as they grow

Toowoomba and the Darling Downs are home to an incredibly diverse business community.

Our local operation is already positioned to support businesses across agriculture and equine, transport and logistics, manufacturing, construction, education, hospitality and other commercial sectors.

And as the region continues to grow, we intend to grow with it.

Wanless Chief Operating Officer Peter O’Malley says establishing a local operation reflects the company’s longer-term commitment to the region.

“We don’t see Toowoomba as simply another service area. We’re investing in a local operation because we want to be part of the Toowoomba business community. That means giving Toowoomba a local team they know they can rely on.”

It’s an approach that brings together two sides of Wanless: the history and relationships of a family-owned Australian business, and the scale, expertise and resource recovery capabilities we’ve built since those blue trucks were driving around Toowoomba.
